Each and every life is a gift from God.… I can’t stomach the idea that we wouldn’t do everything in our power to protect and nurture those lives.
Nikki Haley is strongly pro-life. Nikki Haley supports a baby’s right to life, the most basic right there is. You can’t have life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness without the right to life. Nikki Haley calls the pro-life movement a noble and thankless one, because the babies you are fighting for aren’t in a position to thank you.
In each of Nikki Haley’s offices, she has consistently fought for and pushed forward legislation protecting the precious lives of America’s children.
Nikki Haley’s Pro-Life Legislative Record
Nikki Haley supports pro-life legislation and promises to use her power to protect the lives of all children.
As governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley was proud to sign a bill banning abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. Why 20 weeks? Not only can fetuses feel pain at 20 weeks, but Nikki Haley also thought about 20 weeks from the mother’s perspective.
To me, 20 weeks, again I thought about as a mom. I felt my kids moving inside of me. I connected with my kids moving inside of me. I knew that they had elbows because they hurt. I knew that they wouldn’t get settled if I had sugar. I knew all of that. And so those communications and connections start way before we get to see the sweet face that’s delivered. And the thought of five months, and all that I felt in those five months, was something that I felt was very important that we think about.
The bill excludes only women whose lives are threatened by the pregnancy and whose child would not survive outside of the womb. Physicians who violate the bill by performing illegal procedures are guilty of a misdemeanor offense with a maximum sentence of three years prison time plus a potential fine.
There is also a second personal reason why Nikki Haley is willing to fight for the lives of these babies. At the Susan B. Anthony Gala, she opened up about one of the motivators of her passionate pro-life views – her husband, Michael Haley. Here’s what she said:
Many don’t know that Michael and his four siblings spent several years in foster care. Foster care can be amazing, but it was not kind to Michael and his siblings. It was unkind. Luckily, when Michael was five, he and his younger sister were adopted by a kind, loving couple who couldn’t have children of their own.
I often think about what would have happened if Michael hadn’t been so lucky…if his biological mother had chosen a different path…if his adoptive parents hadn’t been so compassionate…
In politics, people assume that if you’re Republican you’re pro-life, because that’s what the party tells you to be. I’m pro-life, because I get the chance to spend every day with my husband knowing that I am blessed.
Nikki Haley’s Pro-Life Record at the United Nations
As U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley terminated United States funding for the United Nations Population Fund, an organization that provides abortions to women around the globe.
This landmark decision was part of a larger initiative of the Trump administration to cease sending American dollars to fund abortions abroad. The decision also ended funding to other inhumane UNPF practices, such as the forced sterilizations and abortions done in China.
